As a distinguished figure in both academia and public service, Henry Bienen has had a career marked by leadership and influence across various domains. Henry Bienen is the President Emeritus of Northwestern University, having served as the president of Northwestern University from 1995 to 2009. He was also the James S. McDonnell Distinguished Professor and Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. Bienen has also held key roles in international affairs, including serving as Senior Director for International Economic Affairs at the National Security Council, as a consultant to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the World Bank, and as Deputy U.S. Trade Representative. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 1960 and his master's degree from the University of Chicago in 1961. He was later awarded his PhD in 1966 from UChicago. Bienen is a trustee of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and has served as a consultant to the Boeing Corporation, Carnegie Corporation, as well as the Ford Foundation.
