The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools Model United Nations Sixth Conference
Attracting a projected 600 delegates annually, LABMUNC VI is returning after seven years as one of the premier high school-run Model UN Conferences. We are committed to hosting a competitive conference that brings together schools around the Chicagoland area, bringing back the spirit of LABMUNC. Over the last decade, LabMUN has won consistent delegation awards at prestigious collegiate conferences like Princeton, Georgetown, Penn, Yale, and Northwestern.
To uphold the highest standards for our conference, LABMUNC is staffed by seasoned delegates with extensive experience competing at the peak of high-school MUN. We hope to provide a fun and engaging environment for our delegates, with committees set to debate some of the most important issues in our world today.
LABMUNC Secretariat
LETTER FROM THE SECRETARIES GENERAL
Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,
It is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome you to LABMUNC V on Saturday, December 7th, 2024.
We are both current seniors and are honored to serve as LabMUN’s 2024-2025 Secretary Generals. Although we have been competing on LabMUN since our freshman year, it was after transitioning to leadership roles last year that we gained a unique perspective on our team and the activity itself. Over the past four years, MUN has become a backbone and community for us, teaching us invaluable life and educational skills. Joining LabMUN has been one of the best decisions we have made during high school.
Last year, when we decided to bring back LABMUNC for the first time in nearly a decade, we set out with a goal to make a high school conference that would become a permanent fixture in the Chicagoland MUN community. While this will be our first and last LABMUNC, the LabMUN secretariat has worked tirelessly to ensure LABMUNC is here to stay. By the time our doors open in December, over a year of work from our talented and hard-working Secretariat and staff members will have gone into planning this conference.
Our LABMUNC committees are designed to inspire delegates to engage deeply with a wide range of global issues, fostering critical thinking and innovative problem-solving. This year, we are thrilled to present a diverse array of committees that stand out for their originality and variety. These committees will address topics ranging from population variability to exploring the 1979 Afghan-Russian war. With comprehensive research, persistence, and the support of our dedicated staff, delegates will confront these challenges directly and work collaboratively towards creative solutions.
On behalf of the Secretariat and the entire staff, welcome to LABMUNC V. If you have any additional questions, please email mun@ucls.uchicago.edu. We look forward to seeing all of you in Hyde Park this December!
Best,
Helen Kraemer and Alexander Saratovsky
