Approximate Size: 40 single delegate delegations
In this committee, delegates will address the complexities surrounding refugees' right to asylum in the face of global challenges. Despite the growing need for protection and the moral and legal obligations to offer refuge, countries grapple with balancing humanitarian responsibilities with national security and economic concerns. Delegates will explore strategies to manage asylum processes effectively, promote equitable sharing of refugee responsibilities, and address the root causes of displacement. The goal is to find solutions that respect human rights while considering national interests and practical implementation challenges.
Dear Delegates,
My name is Ishie Holz and I am a junior. I have been a part of the team for three years, and am now a Director-General. This year, I am going to chair the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. My favorite part of the LABMUN team is our team culture, and watching my friends win awards that they worked hard for. Outside of MUN, I am on the Water Polo and Squash teams, and can usually be found on my skateboard with a ukulele in hand. I also play many board games, and frequent Friday night magic. My favorite topics in school are History and Latin, although computer science can be cool as well. I hope delegates will come away from this conference with a better understanding of the United Nations role in our changing world.
Best,
Ishie Holz
