The United Nations Environmental Programme focuses on protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development on a global scale. In this committee, delegates will discuss the issue of waste colonialism, a practice in which wealthier countries send their waste to developing countries, often leading to environmental and health problems. Delegates should work collaboratively to develop new and practical solutions that ensure improved waste management and greater international cooperation.
Dear Delegates,
My name is Navya Chilakapati, and I am currently a junior here at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. This will be my second year participating in model UN, and I’m super excited to be chairing UNEP this year! Outside of MUN, I am a part of cross country and track & field, and am volunteering at various healthcare organizations. As Chair of the UNEP Committee, I hope to create an engaging and collaborative environment where delegates can work towards finding solutions to the issues at hand. I want to encourage thoughtful debate and respectful discussion that leads to innovative and practical ideas. I am looking forward to meeting you in December!
Best,
Navya Chilakapati
