The Economic and Financial Committee is one of the six main committees of the UN. ECOFIN focuses on global economic and financial concerns that often impact all 193 member states. In this committee, delegates will discuss black market economies and their impact on governments, businesses, and everyday citizens. Delegates must work together to develop practical solutions that reduce illegal economic activity while promoting both economic growth and international cooperation. Delegates will have the opportunity to propose solutions addressing issues such as trafficking, money laundering, and cryptocurrencies.
Dear Delegates,
My name is Isaac Becker, I’m currently a junior at U-High, this is my third year doing MUN, and I am so excited to be co-chairing ECOFIN this year! I believe that MUN teaches timeless skills of public speaking, leadership, teamwork, and problem solving that are all critical to everyday life. But most importantly the community of people that I have met through the activity are some of my closest friends. Outside of MUN, I'm on the track and cross-country team and a soccer referee. I'm looking forward to seeing the creative ideas you all bring to the table.
My name is Owen Hannan, and I am a junior here at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. I’ve been involved in Model UN since my freshman year, and I’m extremely excited to be co-chairing ECOFIN this year. Outside of MUN, I am a member of the Junior Economics Club of Chicago, a participant in a variety of political science initiatives such as a criminal justice program at Princeton, and an active volunteer. As co-chair of the ECOFIN committee, I hope to create an engaging and collaborative environment, where delegates can work towards finding viable solutions to the issues at hand.
Best,
Isaac Becker & Owen Hannan
